Somebody spent a lot of time designing this fan. If it was made with metal, it would have been even better. It definitely "could be" a very quiet fan, and the oscillation and tilt feature is well thought out.

However, right out of the box, my fan had an irritating rattle - so much so I had to unscrew the back fan guard to see what was wrong with the fan blades. That's when I noticed the fan blades are one unit, molded plastic, and it was unbalanced. It is mounted on sound deadening material instead of directly to the motor shaft. This allowed the molded blade assembly to move around slightly just by pushing it. Reassembled the fan guard - and it was quiet . . . in the horizontal position. Tilted the fan upwards and the rattle came back. Tilted it back down and it was quiet again.

My fan lucked out on the timer also. The old fashion timer clicked constantly. Used in a bedroom, the clicking noise was unacceptably loud. Even with the fan off, the clicks kept going for almost half an hour before it finally stopped.

I returned the fan. Nice design, but it needs more work.

These are cheaper overall at walmart.com because of the insane shipping cost on Amazon - $12 per fan!

That being said, we have bought 3 of these now and have been thoroughly impressed with how strong a breeze we get from such a small machine. We are able to keep our window ACs off all night and sleep comfortably since this purchase.

Our first fan was purchased last summer and is still going strong after being on 24/7 for months at a time - no trouble yet. Husband mounted it above our bed with no problem.
